So these are some of the best books I've read. A lot of them of touched me, so these are my thoughts and opinions on them.
The Five People You Meet in Heaven By Mitch Albom
I read this book in the 8th grade just after a friend of mine, who was only 15 years old, passed away. Although the main character, Eddie, dies at age 83 in the novel, the meaning pertains to all lives. Ultimately, every life, as insignifacant as it may seem to others, is important. Also, we unwittingly touch the lives of everyone we come into contact with, sometimes for the better, sometimes for the worse, but either way, it is always a learning experience. I would recommend the book to anyone, but if you are grieving the death of someone near to you, this is a MUST read.
For One More Day By Mitch Albom
Not as good as The Five People You Meet in Heaven, but definitely an excellent book with a powerful meaning. Just one day with a loved one can truly change our lives for the better. When the protagonist Chick Benetto decides to commit suicide, he is given the chance to spend one more day with his dead mother, where he learns of her sacrifices and heart aches. The most important lesson from the novel is about self-forgiveness. Often, others have no problem forgiving us, but we find it impossible to forgive ourselves. A perfect read for many people.
Angela's Ashes By Frank McCourt
A must read if your Irish to see why your relatives came to America. Definitely a good read for non-Irish also. Young Frank McCourt is a hero for all people our age (teenage). He struggles to keep his family together and provide, while fending for himself and trying to come to America. His heartaches are great, but still life goes on. This book gave me a new appreciation for my greatgrandparent who would be slightly older than Frankie, but still underwent the same hardships.
Three Weeks With My Brother By Nicholas Sparks
In all honesty, I recieved this book as a gift, and really was not to keen on reading it, but it quickly become one of my favorite books. Nicholas Sparks reflects on his experiences with his family, which is sometimes painful, being he and his brother are the only living members of their family. Interlaced with his relfections is the story of his trip around the world with his brother and all the sites they see. If you are into travel, the trip part are great. It was wonderful getting to know the author of some of my other favorite books, and I could easily see where he uses his family for inspiration in his works.
The Romanov Prophecy By Steve Berry
I picked up this book because I have a slight obsession with reading about the Romanovs ever since I saw the animated movie "Anastasia" when I was little. Well, anyway, this book is fantastic. The book deals with so much. First, Anastasia and her younger brother, the Tsarvitch Alexei excape from the cellar where there family was killed, and if they did, did they leave any heirs? The novel also discusses modern Russia with its intrigue and lawlessness. Its a thriller, similar to the DaVinci Code in the race to discover the truth, but in my opinion, much better.
